how to cut core a pineapplePineapples are in season March to July and are deeeelicious if timed right. Everyone at some point in their life has eaten pineapple but do they know how to cut it into nice delectable chunks?  I know I didn’t until someone told me!

Today, I am here to spread the wealth and tell you how you can cut and core the perfect pineapple! With the help of a great knife (click here for my favorite knife set) it is super easy! Below, I give you step by step instructions OR you can watch my YouTubeVideo by clicking here or scrolling down to the bottom of the page!

MAUI

Flash back to 2011 when my husband and I went to the lovely island of Maui. Pineapple was abundant! They literally had little carts on the side of the road and using the honor system, you could drop your money into the slot and take a nice pineapple (or two). My husband and I bought a couple and asked a local how we were supposed to cut them.

HOW DO I KNOW IF THE PINEAPPLE IS READY TO EAT?

However, before we get into the step-by-step process of how to cut a pineapple first you need to know how to pick one! It is quite simple…. if the pineapple is green it is not ready to eat. If the outside of the pineapple is yellow, it is! See below for two images.

Ok so now the pineapple is ripe… What do I do next? Well, you need 4 things to begin the process.

  1. Ripe Pineapple
  2. Cutting Board
  3. Great knife
  4. Storage Container

Great! Let’s get started!

step 1 slice off crown
Step 1: Lay the pineapple on its side and slice off crown
step 2 slice off all sides
Step 2: Slice off all the sides
step 3 slice into half 1 slices
Step 3: Lay back on its side
slice into half inch slices
Step 4: slice into 1/2″ to 1″ slices
step 4 take a couple slices and cut all around the core making small squares
Step 5: take a couple slices at a time and cut around the center core making small squares
step 5 store in tupperware and enjoy
Step 6: store chunks in tupperware and put in fridge. Enjoy!
