Stamp That! My Journey as a CA Notary Public

my journey as a notaryLast week I presented my notary business to a room full of Real Estate (RE) professionals. That room was filled with Realtors, lenders, escrow officers, and title reps! I was nervous to present because it’s been a while since I have stood up in front of people and presented something.

I worked on my presentation the week before and then tried to practice once a day leading up to the big day! I ended up missing a couple things BUT I got all of the key points in there so I was happy! See below for the YouTube video of my presentation (or by clicking here!)

HOW I GOT TO THIS POINT

Let me take you back for a bit. I have been a notary since 2004 and used to complete all the loan doc signings in my office (and process all the loans). Then in 2006 I quit and started my 13 year career in Licensing and Sales at Disguise/Palamon. I would still do notary jobs here and there while working full time but they seriously dwindled. A few months ago I had finally had enough and pulled the trigger! I quit my full time (high paying) job in corporate America. It was time to figure out my passion! I knew I would get back into the Real Estate world and do notary stuff while I tried to figure out exactly what I was passionate about.  Then during the last week of my sales job, the idea for Brie OCD was born (this blog that you are reading right now)! I knew that I was passionate about fitness, food and fun. So why not just do that?!?

ALL ABOUT THE HUSTLE

Why? Well at first (and still) it doesn’t pay the bills! That’s when I knew I had to really hustle to get back into the notary world. Plus, I am anal retentive and love BS’ing with everyone so it was a natural fit for me! I got all of my certifications (that didn’t exist back in ’04) and took the Loan Signing System course by Mark Wills to get me back up to speed with the loan signing process, just in case things had changed and to refresh my memory (which definitely needed refreshing!). If you are looking to get into the signing agent business, I definitely recommend his course! (click here for my affiliate link to sign up).

NETWORKING FREAK

Now that I was back and refreshed, I needed to make connections again! A couple friends of mine (what up Maddison and Natasha!) are Escrow reps and told me to go to the caravans. I finally started going in June and haven’t let up yet. I have been hustling every week, rushing around, going to multiple pitches, different offices with baked goods, coffee networking, parties, happy hours,  all in the attempt at creating relationships and letting these people get to know me. Because I know, that once they know me, they will see that I am hardworking, organized, knowledgeable and personable and will want to give their business to me. It just takes time. It takes perseverance. It takes showing my face every week and reminding them that I exist. It takes truly caring about people and not just using them for your needs. This business is all about relationships, so if you aren’t ready to create them, then this is not the business for you!

PRESENTATION

So I officially joined PLOBRA and as I mentioned before actually presented to them last week! I educated the group on the difference between a notary and a signing agent, the importance of the notary during the closing, who chooses the notary (and why they should!) and basically why they should choose me!

Even though these people are professionals and know a lot of the info that I gave them, what they don’t know is that they can take control. They can choose the notary instead of leaving it up to chance. A lot of people think, “oh, its just the notary”, however,  the notary plays a crucial part in the loan closing process and could make mistakes that literally halt the transaction.  So basically, I was there to tell them, that they have the choice to specify who they want and to choose me! (DUH!!)

MY FUTURE

I am excited to see where this old but new career takes me! I love being a notary/signing agent because I can make my own hours. I love that every day is different and you never know what transaction will pop up or where it will take you. I love meeting all the new people (not that I can remember their names!) and shooting the sh*t (that means talking in RI LOL).  I love that I can work on my blog and this business at the same time.

YOUR FUTURE

Remember people, if you are not happy with your present situation and where your future is headed, then change it. Write down everything that you are passionate about and figure out a way to make money doing those things. Depending on your financial status, you might have to keep working your current job for a while until you can build up that secondary income BUT there is no time like the present. Life is too short to do things that make you unhappy. So pursue your passions and be relentless trying to attain the future that you desire!

******SIGNING AGENTS******

There is a link above to the PowerPoint in case you would like to use it for your own presentation (obviously updating it with your information) and you can see it in action by watching my YouTube video below (or by clicking here).  Watching the video will help supplement the PowerPoint by showing what I said to illustrate each bullet point. Great story and very inspirational. I hope someday I get to share my story just like you. I finally got my commission recently and excited to start doing notary and hopefully as a Signing Agent soon. You are in control! I liked how you presented it. Thanks!

You got this! Have you taken a loan signing course yet? If not I highly recommend Mark Will’s Loan Signing System! here is my referral link – http://loansigningsystem.com/?afmc=fk
It teaches you all about the loan documents and how to market yourself to escrow, lenders etc. It is totally worth it! Let me know if you need anything!
