light half of the grill burners and heat to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
place tri tip on grill directly over lit burner. close cover and cook for 20 minutes.
flip every 10-15 minutes. (when you see it getting charred is a good indication to flip).
after 20 minutes move tri-tip to side of the grill that the burners are NOT lit. close cover and cook for about another 20-25 minutes or until internal temp reaches your preference. 125 degrees for rare, 135 degrees for med rare, 140 degrees for medium.
remove meat from the grill and let rest for 10 minutes. Slice and Enjoy!
