This recipe was my second attempt at using my new Cuisinart Air Fryer and these Teriyaki Chicken Wings did NOT disappoint! They were actually very crispy and reminded me of the Chinese chicken wings we used to get at Kings Garden or China Dynasty growing up!
WHAT IS AN AIR FRYER?
An Air Fryer is supposed to give you the healthier version of fried foods. It basically is a mini convection oven that uses hot air to crisp up the food with minimal oil used.
WHAT AIR FRYER SHOULD I BUY?
I love my air fryer for the simple fact that is large and in charge! I bought the Cuisinart Air Fryer (click here to view/buy) which is not only an air fryer, it is also an oven, a broiler (both with convection option) and a toaster. The best part is it fits a ton in it! I just looked at the air fryer that Costco sells and the basket is TINY. Which means you would have to do multiple batches…. who wants to deal with that?! See my unboxing video on YouTube by clicking here or scrolling down.
INSPIRATION
The sauce inspiration came from my buddy Cima! We were over there for football Sunday and he made a bunch of different wings (in the regular fryer lader) and the teriyaki ones were my favorite! He told me his easy 2 ingredient sauce concoction, I added some red pepper flakes and the rest is history.
SUPER EASY
This recipe is fool proof! There is literally no way to mess it up! You simply place the wings in the basket, cover with cooking spray and air fry. You mix the sauce using 3 ingredients and toss with wings. VOILA! Please note: If you don’t have an air fryer as big as the Cuisinart TOA-60 you will have to make these in multiple batches.
NUTRITION
They were super easy to make and require no oil! Per large wing, there are 175 calories, 7g carbs, 8g fat and 16g protein. Quite honestly I feel like these stats are high because even though I used 2# of chicken wings, most of that is bone. There seems to be a ton of debate online on how to figure it out. Just know that these are NOT fried and don’t have batter so they are way healthier than your take out wings.
WHERE TO BUY
I bought everything except the red pepper flakes at Trader Joe’s! They have both drumettes and wings and they are a great size. I bought two packages (5 wings in each package) totaling 2.5# of drumettes. I also buy my honey at Trader Joe’s because they have the best pricing (there and Costco of course).
If you like these wings, you should also try my other Honey BBQ Chicken Wings! Click here for the recipe! Hope you enjoy both of these wings as much as we did!
Products I love to use when making this recipe:
- 2.5 lbs chicken drumettes (about 10 wings)
- 1/2 cup island soyaki
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
-
lightly spray air fryer basket/tray with cooking spray. Place chicken drumettes in a single layer in air fryer basket/tray. spray generously with cooking spray.
-
set the air fryer to air fry at 400 degrees. cook for approximately 30 minutes or until skin is crispy. Flip half way through.
-
after halfway mark and you flip chicken wings start to make the sauce by combining soyaki, honey and red pepper flakes in a small pan. heat sauce over med-low heat for approximately 5 minutes. set aside (sauce should start to thicken even more after setting aside).
-
place cooked chicken drumettes in a medium mixing bowl. using tongs toss with sauce. transfer coated drumettes to a plate. cover with additional sauce if you want!
-
serve and enjoy!
